Prepping is a Way of life

It is amazing how fast a plan can go south.I thought that I pretty well had my prepping plan going good.Food put away in the closet, enough for the wife & myself for 6 months.Easy!!Freezer full of meat,Plenty of propane for alternate cooking,Stabilized gas put away for the gen set, extra batteries for flashlights, plenty of toilet paper, soap etc.I figure I'm good to go if a storm rolls in & everything goes to hell for awhile. The garden doing fairly well, plenty of veggies growing.
Then Life happens, the oldest boy moves home with his baby boy minus his wife.I wreck my jeep(a total loss),& I'm down for a while.Low funds put aside due to loans for attorney fees, missed work, need to replace wheels & only have a motorcycle for my 100 mile round trip- commute to hell for work(New Orleans).Well i figure It's ok I'll make out,I'm PREPARED.HA HA ,the jokes on me,BIG TIME.
With me working 6 or 7 days a week I don't get to keep a eye on stuff ,I'm totally distracted with getting back on track.

The first thing that goes is the garden,Our pride & joy goes downhill fast ,since the wife has to tend to the baby 12 hrs a day maintenance is neglected, & coupled with the extreme heat Our final yield is poor at best.Propane stash is gone because the boy grills everything to avoid cleaning up the mess in the kitchen,Preps are raided because the pantry is running low or he needs lunch.Unfortunately the canned stuff is stacked in the closet in his room(which I never check due to long hours) & the next thing you know I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING STASHED AT ALL. I think that is worse then not prepping at all ,at least you know you don't have anything if you are sitting on your butt, but when you think you have it under control & then find out you don't (when you need it),That is a pisser.
A brutal reminder that you take nothing for granted & to remain vigilant at ALL TIMES.

Well The boy has moved on,& I begin to get it together again this time i am relocating the food storage to the GUN\Computer room that I am in every day & I have a dead bolt on the door. All bins & boxes will have a inventory sheet attached so I can track what I have. And unless a disaster strikes or food rotation is necessary nothing leaves that room under penalty of a 13eee up the butt.It won't take long to get back to were i was ,a month or 2, but I guess that means the xmas money is going on preps & the kids will just have to get over it.
The Moral of the story,BE VIGELANT or be Hungry or worse.......PREP ON.................

Emergency stove

I saw this U-Tube video off of the survival spot blog & thought that it would make a great emergency crayfish cooker if I was stuck in the swap & needed some munchies to get buy.
